Preterm birth is the most serious threat to a newborn’s health. In 2003, research into the causes and prevention of prematurity became a primary focus at the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers are the latest advancement in that effort.
With more than 200 scientists, researchers, physicians, faculty and staff coming together to address this one issue, these research centers represent the largest and most wide ranging scientific inquiries ever created to solve the mystery of preterm birth.
One in nine babies is born prematurely in the United States each year, and more than 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide every year. Here’s how you can help our efforts to give every baby a healthy start.
As a contributor to the March of Dimes the Prematurity Research Centers you can join in the fight to prevent premature birth. Your gift will support the work of our outstanding scientific team as they endeavor to make unprecedented breakthroughs to find answers.
You can make an online one time or monthly gift to help fund the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers. Please click on the purple box that says “I’d like to make a donation to prematurity research” and you will be connected to our online, safe and secure donation form to make your gift.
When you make a stock gift, you not only get an income tax deduction equal to the market value of the stock on the contribution date (by taking the average of the high and low prices that day) – you also avoid the capital gains tax.
Plan now to leave a legacy of hope for healthy babies. We can help you combine your philanthropy with financial planning for the future.
The two most common ways to support the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers is through your estate plan or by making your current giving permanent. A planned gift allows you to retain control of your assets and takes advantage of tax laws. A well-designed plan can reduce your taxes allowing you to leave more to your beneficiaries.
If you are interested in making a gift at a later time, a Charitable Gift Annuity or a Charitable Remainder Trust can provide a predictable income partially tax-free and at a more favorable rate than a commercial annuity.
You might also consider naming one of the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Centers as a beneficiary of a specific asset, or a part of your estate or residual estate. The most common vehicles are an unused portion of your retirement plan, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403 (b); a life insurance policy; and financial accounts that can include a bank, brokerage account or CD.
