Preterm birth is the most serious threat to a newborn’s health. In 2003, research into the causes and prevention of prematurity became a primary focus at the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis is the latest advancement in that effort.
With more than 30 scientists, researchers, physicians, faculty members and staff coming together to address this one issue, the Washington University in St. Louis represents the largest and most wide ranging scientific inquiries ever created to solve the mystery of preterm birth.
One in nine babies is born prematurely in the United States each year, and more than 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide every year. Here’s how you can help our efforts to give every baby a healthy start.
